Sometimes timing is everything.

I usually have horrible timing and I just try to prepare for it knowing that things will go wrong.  But sometimes, just sometimes, things go well. And sometimes they even go really well.

I try to do my taxes early, and I finished them online last month. Or at least I *thought* I did. It turns out they were not actually submitted even though the website said "Your taxes are done". I just found out today (17th) and I thought I'd be hit with a late fee, but this year taxes are due on the 18th because of Washington D.C. Emancipation Day.   That was a nice surprise.

Another shockingly good case of timing has been my lease renewal.  At this moment, I may not want to get into another year long lease, so I renewed for only 3 months which now gives me much more flexibility.

Now I'm starting to worry all this good timing is going to swing back, but then maybe my daily, low-level bad timing just keeps building up until I get bursts of good timing.  I guess that's not a bad way to have it :) 

I am back from my business trip and it has been a reminder to me that there are many jobs out there where one doesn't need to travel.  In fact, I dare say that most jobs in the world do not require getting on a plane to spend an entire week sleeping on a strange bed.  

That's not to say anything against who live that lifestyle or get fulfillment in the sense they are part of the 'movers and shakers' depicted so often in airline or hotel commercials.   But I rather believe there is a good amount of moving and shaking that can be done within one's own locality, and I have never had any need to find fulfillment in unfamiliar places.

Also unpacking sucks. 

I've had to go on a business trip for a full seven days, so my writing has gotten stymied.

Traveling seems to be a mix for me when it comes to creativity.   A change of pace or scenery can be helpful to come up with new ideas, but at the same time, many authors recommend having a set schedule and place where you do your writing.  Plus I can't think of anything more horrible than needing to travel to break out of writer's block.

When I have managed to write anything in strange hotel rooms, it may seem like I'm doing something worthwhile, but once I get back and read it, there's nothing worth keeping.  Maybe this time there will something from my efforts.

Traveling is also a massive time sink.   Not only is there all the planning before the trip but the post-trip issues the laundry, the empty fridge, dead plants etc.  Now if you're doing it for a vacation, there's a theoretical pay off for your troubles.  If you're doing it for work, the pay off is not getting fired.  Not really great incentive to travel for me.

Anyway, I'm hoping when I get back, the relief of not needing to travel again (hopefully) any time soon and return to my familiar writing area will help me actually complete the next eBook in the Shadowlust Series.

(I am also freaking throwing away this stupid undersized keyboard I bought because my laptop keyboard died right before the trip,  I should have just bought a full sized one, it's amazing how shrinking a keyboard makes it so hard to use, like learning to type all over again)

So I have a half-complete Shadowlust story that should be easy to finish but every time I sit down, it's like my fingers just freeze on the keyboard.  And I have an idea (several ideas) for a new comedy story but it's just stuck in my head rather than scrabbling to get out and be put into words.  Don't know why this is happening. It's both annoying and disturbing.

I've increased my amount of exercise recently, but I'm not going to stop that.  I simply need to figure out how to keep that up and keep my creativity going. 

 

Thankfully when something mocks me, I get irritated.  And when I get irritated I get stubborn. I'm not freaking going to stop banging against this wall until something gives.

A Review of More Tales from the House by R.K.B. Kirin

"Tales from the House" and "Tale of the Farm" will be part of the 2016 Smashwords Read an Ebook Week promotion, taking place March 6-12 2016!   Both will be made available for free for the week on the Smashwords catalog.  "Tale of the Farm" has always been a free ebook but for this week "Tales from the House" with the awesome cover art by O-mac will be free to pick up as well!

Smashwords informed me that "More Tales from the House" was accepted to their premium catalog which means it should be even more available - Hooray!  I hope people like it since this installment is getting past the introduction of the setting and moving into some of the plot ideas I have.  There are several things I have in mind, and I need to see how I can present them in the story.

That said, I'm trying to decide if I should continue with the next Shadowlust ebook or do a new series which will have more comedy.   Dark desires and inhuman lusts are great themes, but I like doing funny stuff too.  I'm also worried the Shadowlust stories will get stale if I keep focusing only on them.
